Learn to drive

A learner driver learning to drive

If you are you aged between 16 to 25 years of age and live in New South Wales, Queensland, or Western Australia*, our ‘Drive for Life’ training and mentoring program can help you obtain your driver’s licence.

The program is designed for young people who may find it difficult to achieve their drivers licence due to a variety of factors, including:

  • Low levels of numeracy/literacy (early school leaving)
  • Long term unemployment
  • Living in remote communities
  • Experiences of homelessness
  • Cultural barriers
  • Mental health
  • Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD)
  • Lack of access to a vehicle or licenced supervising driver
  • Living with a disability**

Learning to drive is a key life skill that can help young people move towards independence and realise their education, employment and housing goals.

If you are in Victoria and under 21 years of age, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) funded L2P learner driver mentor program is available. See more details below.

*Please note this program is not available everywhere. Click on the state below to see what is available.

**Please note Drive for Life does not have modified vehicles or specialist driving instructors to support people living with physical disability. For specialised disability services, please contact https://www.ndis.gov.au/
