Join us for a Christmas meal

You're invited to celebrate Christmas with us!

If you are feeling lonely or have no one to share Christmas with, you are invited to a free Christmas meal with the Salvos. Every year, we host free Christmas lunches and other meals across the country. It is an opportunity to share good food with great company in the spirit of companionship.

The heart of Christmas is Jesus Christ and the good news he brings. We love celebrating Christmas and Jesus’ birth, because it’s a message “that will bring great joy to all people” (Luke 2:10, NLT).

Everyone is welcome to a Salvation Army Christmas event. We will warmly welcome you as we celebrate Christmas with decorations, music and a delicious meal.

To join us, please search for your closest event below and contact us ASAP to register your interest. These events can book out quickly and COVID-19 restrictions may mean smaller numbers of guests can attend this year. Not all Salvation Army locations offer free Christmas meals, but many do host Christmas church services or carols events. Use the form below to find your nearest suburb.

If you need help to celebrate Christmas with your loved ones, we also have food hampers and gift assistance available here.

Frequently asked questions

Everyone is welcome to celebrate Christmas with us. This includes local community members who have a connection with the Salvos, people who don’t have family around and want someone to share a meal with, and people who have been helped by the Salvos in the past and currently.

Depending on the state restrictions in your local area, there may be limits on attendance, less volunteers and a need for registration. Some Christmas meals will be outside to accommodate more people. Salvation Army centres and churches will complete risk assessments and COVID-19 Safety Plans before hosting an event. What won’t be different is the love, joy, companionship and laughter you will find at a Salvo Christmas meal! Please contact your local Salvation Army for further information and specific advice.

The Salvation Army loves Christmas because we find hope and joy in the good news of Jesus’ birth. We love celebrating Christmas and want to help as many people as possible experience the same joy! Our Christmas meals are full of fun, laughter and friendship.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there may be limits on the number of volunteers at your local event. Please contact your local Salvation Army to find out if you can volunteer at a Christmas meal or in other ways this Christmas. There are other volunteer opportunities available on our website.
