Emergency and Disaster Recovery services

The Salvation Army’s Disaster Recovery services meets people at their point of need in times of disaster.

When disaster strikes, Salvos are always in the thick of it. If the situation is unpleasant, we’ll still go. We’re not afraid to get our hands dirty to bring hope where it’s needed most.

Our vast network of services means that we can draw on experts in a range of fields to assist during long-term healing. We believe that no one should have to ‘go it’ alone. When the emergency is over, we don’t pull out. We step up our services.

Our long-term view is years, not months.

Our trained counsellors are deployed to homes, schools or town-hall settings to work with individuals or groups. Our emergency support workers provide immediate assistance with cash and goods. Our financial counsellors are available later on down the track to help people work through complex longer-term issues.

Disasters can change everything. Our employment and training services are available for people who can’t, or don’t want to, return to their old job. We can help with relocation for those who don’t wish to stay in the disaster area.

We recognise that disaster response is not just about rebuilding homes but about rebuilding lives. Our disaster recovery services leave a lasting legacy in disaster-affected communities, with resources and services remaining well into the future.

The Salvation Army Australia acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet and work and pay our respect to Elders past, present and future.

We value and include people of all cultures, languages, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and intersex status. We are committed to providing programs that are fully inclusive. We are committed to the safety and wellbeing of people of all ages, particularly children.
